How a lesson works

A lesson is one hour of focused one to one instruction at our private studio in Nerang, with Stephen or Nikoletta. There is no set syllabus. We tailor every lesson to your individual needs, start from where you are, and go at a pace you are comfortable with. You tell us what you would like from the hour.

Who we teach

Our private lessons are for adults, over 18, including adults with disability. We have taught private lessons for students with additional needs, including autism. Because every lesson is built around one person, we can adjust as we go: a slower pace, more repetition, more breaks, whatever helps.

Good to know

  • Your support worker is welcome to dance as your partner, or to sit and watch.
  • Take a break whenever you need one, or finish early.
  • Choose a male or female instructor.
  • Learn to lead or to follow, whichever suits you.

One student's story

One of our students is on the autism spectrum and has learned Cuban salsa in private lessons with Stephen for over two years. A busy group class, with loud music and a full room, was not the right setting. A quiet one to one lesson was.

Every lesson goes at our student's pace. We move on when our student is ready, take a break whenever one is wanted, and go over a step as often as it helps. When a lesson day does not suit, we move the lesson to another time at no charge.

Our student has an excellent memory for patterns, and learned advanced turn patterns faster than most students do. Over that time we have seen our student's confidence grow, along with fitness and coordination.

Every student is different. What stays the same is a lesson built around you.

What you can learn

Cuban salsa. Salsa as it is danced socially in Cuba: improvised, sociable and closely tied to the music. The basic step is a weight change that takes about four minutes to learn.

Authentic Dominican bachata. The original bachata of the Dominican Republic: close, driven by footwork, and danced to guitar music.

We teach social dancing, the kind you can enjoy with a partner at a party or a social night. We are not training you for a stage.

Using your NDIS plan

We are not a registered NDIS provider. Here is what that means for you:

  • Self-managed or plan-managed: you can choose an unregistered provider like us.
  • Managed by the NDIA: your plan funds cannot be used with us. You are still welcome to book and pay yourself.
  • What the NDIS usually funds: generally, participants pay the ordinary cost of an activity, the part everyone pays. The NDIS may fund the extra support you need to take part, such as your support worker.
  • Before you book: whether any part of a lesson can be paid from your plan depends on your plan and your goals, so please check with your plan manager or support coordinator first.
  • Invoices: we can provide an invoice in your name.
